Optional guest screening add on

Criminal Background Screening Built for Hotel Check In

Guest Ban checks each ID scan automatically against your hotel’s ruleset. When a configured rule is met, the front desk sees a simple Do Not Rent alert. Only authorized managers and owners can see the underlying report.

The screening and alert decision happen automatically. Front desk agents never need to interpret a criminal report.

A simpler way to apply your policy

Why screen guests at check in?

An ID tells you who is checking in. Guest Ban applies your property’s ruleset automatically, then shows the agent a simple Do Not Rent alert when manager review is needed.

Catch policy matches earlier

Alert the agent when manager attention is needed before a room key is issued. The detailed finding stays out of the agent view.

Make the process consistent

Management sets the criteria in advance. Front desk staff follow the same defined alert and escalation process on every shift.

Support a calmer property

Timely review can help teams address concerns before they affect other guests, staff time, and the property experience.

Quiet in the background

The agent scans. Guest Ban does the rest.

There is no separate criminal search to run. The property’s ruleset is checked automatically after the ID scan. When an alert is triggered, the agent sees only a simple Do Not Rent message and calls a manager. The reason and full report stay with authorized managers and owners.

Simple for every shift

One scan. Automatic screening.

The agent uses the usual Guest Ban ID scan. The policy check happens behind the scenes and adds no separate screening task.

01

Scan the guest ID

Guest Ban captures supported identity details from the ID already being scanned for check in.

02

Check automatically

Guest Ban checks available records against the property’s configured ruleset in the background.

03

Show a simple alert

If a configured rule is met, a Do Not Rent alert appears automatically. The agent sees no reason or criminal details.

04

Manager reviews the report

An authorized manager or owner opens the full result, verifies the match, and applies the written policy.

Agents see only the Do Not Rent alert. The ruleset decides automatically when to show it. Managers and owners can review the report, verify the match, and make the final decision.

Your rules, your workflow

Set your policy before the next shift.

Choose the rules that trigger an automatic Do Not Rent alert. The front desk sees the same simple message for a match, while authorized managers and owners can review the reason and full report.

Where screening can make a difference

Explore how different hotel operators can use the same configured screening process.

Greater confidence with longer stays

Extended stay guests may occupy a room for weeks. A clear arrival policy helps managers review relevant signals before a stay begins and document a consistent response.

  • Review configured findings before a longer room commitment.
  • Give managers a defined escalation process.
  • Pair screening with DNR and incident documentation.

A stronger guest experience can support future bookings

Fewer disruptive incidents and less room downtime may help protect guest confidence, repeat stays, and the rooms available to sell. Booking growth was not measured in this comparison.

About these results: All 10 participating hotels required an ID scan for every guest on every reservation. The comparison reflects the broader Guest Ban ID scanning, Do Not Rent, documentation, and optional screening program; it does not isolate the effect of criminal screening. Changes are observational and may also reflect staffing, occupancy, local conditions, and reporting practices. Unique bookings and review ratings were not measured.

Think beyond the alert

Protect the stay people came to enjoy

A consistent screening program can support better decisions today and a more dependable guest experience over time.

Protect sellable rooms

Fewer disruptions and losses can mean less time spent on damage, recovery, and rooms taken out of service. Outcomes vary by property.

Support guest confidence

A calmer, better managed property can help guests feel comfortable staying and returning. Measure booking and review results at your own hotel.

Give managers useful context

Managers and owners can review full screening results alongside the scanned ID record, DNR alerts, and incident documentation.

These are potential operational benefits, not a promise of fewer crimes, higher occupancy, or improved reviews.

Protect your reputation

Make the next stay easier to choose.

Guests notice when a hotel feels orderly and well cared for. Consistent guest checks can be one part of protecting that experience, keeping rooms ready, and giving satisfied guests a reason to book again.

What a search can return

More context. Faster review.

Depending on source coverage and records available for a potential identity match, results may include these types of public record information. Not every category appears in every report.

Criminal Records

Review available felony, misdemeanor and other reported criminal history associated with potential identity matches.

Traffic Records

View reported traffic-related offenses, including DUI-related records, where included by a source.

Sex Offender

Review possible matches to registered sex offender information when covered by the selected screening product.

Patriot / Watchlists

Review supported government watchlist information where it is included in the service and authorized for your account.

Arrest Records

See available arrest and charge information, where reported. An arrest is not proof of a conviction.

Warrant Records

Identify possible warrant-related records where available. Status and identity may require independent verification.

Public Registries

Review available public registry information returned by the applicable screening sources.

Coverage depends on the contracted search product, jurisdiction and source availability. Category labels do not guarantee that every database or registry is searched.

Common questions

What hotel teams need to know

Is criminal screening included in a standard Guest Ban plan?

No. Criminal screening is an optional add on. Contact sales for pricing and a setup discussion based on your properties and intended usage.

What does the front desk agent see?

After the usual ID scan, Guest Ban checks the property’s ruleset automatically. If a rule is met, the agent sees a simple Do Not Rent alert asking them to contact a manager. It does not say why the alert appeared or show criminal details. Authorized managers and owners can review the full report.

Does a record automatically mean a guest is refused?

No. A potential match is a signal for review, not proof of identity or an automatic reason to refuse a stay. Your team should verify the match and relevant context and follow applicable law and the hotel’s policy.

Can we choose what triggers an alert?

Yes. The property’s configured ruleset determines when the automatic Do Not Rent alert appears. Available configuration can include offense category, severity, lookback period, and access for approved users. The exact configuration is reviewed during setup.

Will screening slow down check in?

The check can run within the existing ID scan workflow. Response time can vary by source and a potential match may require additional manager review before check in continues.

Would criminal screening make us lose customers?

Guests without a ruleset alert continue through the usual check in process. When an alert appears, a manager verifies the match and follows your written policy. Some stays may be declined, while a more orderly property may support guest confidence and repeat bookings. At the 10 hotels above, every guest was required to have an ID scanned for each reservation and recorded scans rose 94%. That points to more recorded check in activity, but the comparison did not count unique bookings or prove the effect of criminal screening alone.

Is this a complete criminal history for every person?

No database contains every record, and public data differs by jurisdiction and update schedule. A result can also refer to another person with similar identifiers. Screening supports informed review; it does not certify that a guest has no criminal history.

Can I run a one-time search without Guest Ban?

Yes. Innstrata Screen is a separate on-demand screening service for eligible, verified hospitality businesses. You can manually enter guest details and review available results without using Guest Ban ID scanning or PMS integrations. Learn about Innstrata Screen.

How much is a standalone screening search?

Innstrata Screen offers your first eligible search free with no credit card, then $4.99 per individual search, a five-search pack for $19.99, and custom enterprise volume pricing. These are separate from Guest Ban automated screening pricing.

Do I pay if no criminal records are found?

Yes. Each completed Innstrata database search uses one search credit even when no matching criminal records are returned. An empty result does not guarantee that a person has no criminal history.

How is this faster than screening services that take days?

Innstrata focuses on instant database searches instead of the manual courthouse retrieval and verification steps that can extend traditional screening timelines and increase costs. Most requests return quickly, but results vary by data source and may require further review.

Can I use Innstrata Screen for apartment applications or employment?

No. This instant non-FCRA screening offering is intended for specifically approved hospitality guest-use cases. It is not for employment decisions, long-term residential tenancy applications, credit, insurance, or other FCRA-regulated eligibility decisions.
